There are two parts to signing up for the Fall Opti Sailing Classes.

First you need to Register on this page.

Second you need to pay for the class.

Please read carefully and sign up for the correct class.

Register for Fall Sailing Beginning and Advanced/Race Team

Sailing

Fall Optimist sailing at SYC will be held from September 20th until October 30th. Classes will be every Monday between 3:30pm and 6:30pm and Saturdays between 11:00am and 4:00pm. There will be two classes, Beginner and Advanced/Race Team.

Pricing is $600 for the entire session. We prefer for students to attend the entire session but if necessary pricing for Saturdays only is $375 and for Mondays only is $225. I will try to be flexible to partial sessions if there is room to do so. Please contact me with questions (Coach Rob).

The Beginner Class is designed for those who have completed a beginner Opti class during one of our summer sessions or a similar class elsewhere. Building of confidence, continuing the development of basic sailing skills, and having fun will be the main focus. We will also introduce more advanced concepts such as more intricate boat handling techniques and racing. The goal is for older students who are ready to move into the advanced/race team class.

The Advanced/Race Team Class is designed for those who have completed an intermediate/advanced Opti class during one of our summer sessions or a similar class elsewhere. Advanced boat handling techniques, racing, and the introduction to tactical decisions will be the main focus. This is a great class to begin learning and enjoying the intricacies of sailboat racing. This class could potentially run year round and continue throughout the summer. We are attempting to build an SYC Optimist Race Team that will begin competing in regattas.

Dress required will be similar to the summer. Wetsuits are recommended but not necessarily required. If you elect not to bring a wetsuit, have a full set of spray gear with plenty of thermal layers such as spandex leggings, rash guards, and capeline shirts. Bring closed toed shoes (they will get wet), winter hats (for colder days), sunglasses, sunscreen, and a complete change of clothes and a towel. Race Team members should try to bring a watch with a timer or stopwatch.
